I am delighted to welcome all of you to ARC Prospect International Foundation.
I have always appreciated the artistic creativity of man and am connected to it in every way. Artists and philosophers, composers and writers, holy and profound individuals opened a new world for me.
I have always thought: what if a millionth, or even a billionth of readers in our time read every passage of Tolstoy or Dostoevsky with undivided attention, a burning heat, and a thirsty passion, delving into every argument and grasping every delicate artistic touch? What if every creator of our time dove into the life of Van Gogh, Simeon the New Theologian, Victor Hugo, or Beethoven and experienced their inner world, their suffering and joy, and the celebration of their work? If so, human society would grow to enormous spiritual and intellectual heights.
The more I thought about it and embraced the spirit of artistic creativity, the more compelled I felt to be involved in this process. The small flare quickly grew into a burning need for the dedication to create selflessly, to revive true art, to defend eternal-spiritual values of the human personality, and to seek the new birth of theurgical culture in man’s world.
Hence, the foundation was born and with it, my determination to raise awareness and challenge contemporary worldviews on the phenomenon of art, culture, science, and man more closely and critically than ever before.
We believe that the destiny of man, human culture, and art depends on whether the new generation will accept historical truth and sacredness of spiritual experience in their souls or if they will “reasonably” refuse and reject it. As G.K. Chesterton once said, “The madman is not the man who has lost his reason. The madman is the man who has lost everything except his reason.”
So, what is spiritual experience?
I have heard that question more than once. It is asked by those who have experienced revelation. Perhaps they have seen an indescribable vision and created a masterpiece. Perhaps inside of them they heard divine music and were able to compose a shocking world symphony. Or perhaps they have experienced the breeze of cosmic beauty and have written unforgettable poetry. Perhaps some of them experienced the suffering of those who endured humiliation and terrible insult and were able to create a genius novel. They are amazed by what they have discovered and they ask a question with a mixture of wonder and appreciativeness: what is revelation? Where does it come from? What do we know about the many millenniums of spiritual experience? Is seeking the knowledge of this experience our obligation or a choice? If this is an obligation, then why do we usually ignore it, but if it is a choice, then, what is the right choice?
Revelation is given to man in many different manifestations. Everyone, even the most skeptical and secular have experienced a revelation at least once in their life. Revelation goes beyond our reason and logic, yet it is always receptive to the human consciousness. That is why atheists appreciate the Gospel of Jesus Christ, masterpieces like Madonna and Child by Leonardo da Vinci and Mozart’s Requiem. The miracle of revelation cannot be explained by historical reason, biological or physical means, or by psychoanalysis. It cannot be comprehended scientifically or objectified philosophically. It is an inner spiritual miracle.
Revelation is an inner spiritual event: a word, an image, or music beyond the psyche-physical world. True creativity begins with revelation, and true living culture and art are the genuine products of divine revelation.
